Moving right along

Just a quick update since we're all pretty much status quo over here. Morgan had her 9 month check-up on this past week. The doctor said she's doing great and pretty much confirmed what we already knew - Morgan's going to be a giant. She is 19lbs and 30" tall. And she must be part dog because she loves sticking her tongue out. But otherwise Morgan is doing great and growing up so fast. In fact her next trip to the doctors will be in 3 months when she is 1 year old and when I plan on asking the doctor how do I make her stop growing and keep her at 1 year old.

But let's see, what is Morgan doing right now? Well, she is eating three solid meals a day. Her favorite foods are cheese, Cookie Monster waffles, and berries. And she has a mouth full of teeth to enjoy all this food. Luckily she also loves brushing her teeth every night. We're still working on crawling. She's getting better at getting up on her knees but right now she's mainly doing the dolphin/worm and turning around in circles to get where she needs to go. But just in case we've already started putting in the outlet covers and cabinet locks. She doesn't watch too much tv yet but she is definitely familar with the Sesame Street song and loves watching Elmo and Abby Cadabby. I think Pat will tell you that Morgan also enjoys the history channel, Ghosthunters, and MSNBC but I wouldn't know anything about that. Morgan is now a master swimmer and we have the certificate to prove it. I know Colby is very excited to have a new swimming buddy at the pool and beach. Morgan enjoyed attending her first birthday party a couple of weeks ago and loved playing with her friend Elizabeth, though I think meeting Elmo was really the highlight. And it's still too cold to make this a daily outing but on the one day when it was in the 60s we took Morgan to the park and enjoyed some swinging. Check out Morgan's movies for that clip.

Must be the Steelers

I'm not sure how many people are familiar with the wonderful story of my trip to the emergency room 13 years ago on Super Bowl Sunday so why don't I share it with you now.

It was 13 years ago in the last week of January 1996 where I embarked on a rather eventful ski trip. I was entertaining a boy at the time and had much fun skiing and walking and holding hands and all the other fun things a normal pair of teenagers would do on a weekend without parental supervision. We had exhausted our fill of going down the beginner slopes and decided to try a run down the intermediate slope. All was going smoothly until I momentarily forgot how to stop and had a rather spectacular crash. So spectacular this crash was that I lost both of my ski poles. My male friend caught up with me and graciously ventured over to collect my poles for me. However, I decided the heck with poles and attempted to stand without them. Of course this becomes a much more difficult task when your skis are pointing in the downhill direction. Well needless to say I fell again. This time however, when I attempted to stand I made the critical error of rotating my left knee in the outer direction. It would appear that when you do that it's usually followed by a popping sound which of course, I now know is not usually a good sign. Having just had my knee pop and being stuck on the side of a mountain I did what any normal person would do - I promptly stood up on both legs and continued to ski down the rest of the mountain. And not wanting to waste a perfectly good weekend I continued to walk around on my knee for about 2-3 days after the fact until I was finally able to alert my parents that my knee now resembled a basketball in size and might require medical attention. So on Super Bowl Sunday 1996 my father and I spent some time watching the game in the waiting room of the hospital emergency room.

Why am I sharing this story? Because 13 years ago Super Bowl 30 featured a then little-known team called the Pittsburgh Steelers. This past Sunday, Super Bowl 43 once again saw a match-up with the Steelers. And once again I found myself waiting in the hospital emergency room after hearing an eerily familiar popping sound in my left knee following a similar outer rotation. Luckily, this time around my injury will not result with major surgery followed by months of rehab (yet). But I must conclude the result of both falls are solely the blame of the Pittsburgh Steelers and my obvious distraught at seeing them in the Super Bowl. Rest assured I have already contacted my attorney and proper legal action will be taken. Looks like you'll be able to go to college after all, Morgan.
