Fun with food

Now that Morgan is getting a bit older (and as we get more daring) she is finding meal time quite enjoyable. We have just about graduated completely from baby food - we just have a couple more jars we're trying to finish up - and pretty soon Morgan will be on whole milk. She already loves drinking water out of her Abby Cadabby straw cup. You may ask what does a typical meal with Morgan look like. Well here's a fairly accurate representation.

First, she sits and waits patiently for her food to arrive. Usually she'll make faces at Colby who by now knows what's coming and takes his place at the foot of Morgan's chair. More on this in a minute.

Then, she'll conduct a careful and thorough examination of her food to make sure what we have given her is indeed edible.

She'll manage to get in a few dainty and ladylike bites before...

... she decides she really needs to see all food items laid out in front of her in order to be able to fully appreciate the meal.

Morgan really takes her time savoring each bite.

Naturally she declares every meal a rousing success and shows her approval through the timeless art of clapping.

A little bit of cuteness here and there...

... followed by a small case of the sleepies. Eating is hard work!

And we finally wrap things up with Morgan showing off her kind and generous side by offering to share her delicious dinner with her best friend Colby.

And because no story would be complete without the classic embarrassing photo to share 20 years from now...

Though, in Morgan's defense, not every meal features her picking rubbing her nose.

A day at the zoo

For the past couple of days the morning news ran segments featuring cute fury animals. First it was the cheetah cubs and then came the bear cubs. And every time Morgan saw the cute little animals she would squeal and laugh and point at the TV. Not to mention she absolutely loved the Easter Bunny at the mall. So we thought now might be a fun time to try her first big outing to the zoo. I think we did pretty good - you can see for yourself in her photo album (she looked especially cute in her monkey hat and giraffe shorts). She loved seeing the ducks and the farm animals in particular, but that might have been because we were able to get up close and personal with them. None of the other African animals we saw captured her interest. Of course we were all winding down by that point and left before we could get over to the penguins and the monkeys (I think we have plenty of those at home already). But everyone agreed we definitely need to get a polar bear. If nothing else, I'm sure Colby and Chance would love to have a new playmate. And ever since the zoo Morgan has been growling non stop.

As a side note I would like to point out that Morgan was in fact wearing her Oriole dress yesterday for Opening Day which we believe was the sole cause for the Orioles actually beating the Yankees. No need to thank us.

Reminder

Because of the immense popularity of this blog I am frankly shocked that we have not received a single pledge for our March of Dimes walk. Just in case everyone is waiting for that first donation to come in here is a friendly reminder that Morgan and I are participating in the walk on May 3 in Baltimore. And just in case helping premature babies isn't enough of an incentive for you, for every $25 we raise between now and April 7 we'll be entered into a drawing for an American Express gift card. All you have to do is visit our web page on the March of Dimes site and make a donation - http://www.marchforbabies.org/SMJenkins. And of course your donations only gives Morgan that much more incentive to continue practicing her walking (for some reason I'm not entirely sure letting Morgan crawl all over the Inner Harbor is such a good idea).

Too good to be true?

It has officially come to this. After 10 1/2 months it's time to lock the doors, hide the dogs, put away the wine, etc. We knew the peace and quiet couldn't last forever.

Morgan is walking... by herself.

And talking... and asking to borrow the car.

April Fools.

Seriously though, she is now officially crawling. Colby and Chance have gone into hiding. We haven't seen them for a few days now.
