Must be the Steelers

I'm not sure how many people are familiar with the wonderful story of my trip to the emergency room 13 years ago on Super Bowl Sunday so why don't I share it with you now.

It was 13 years ago in the last week of January 1996 where I embarked on a rather eventful ski trip. I was entertaining a boy at the time and had much fun skiing and walking and holding hands and all the other fun things a normal pair of teenagers would do on a weekend without parental supervision. We had exhausted our fill of going down the beginner slopes and decided to try a run down the intermediate slope. All was going smoothly until I momentarily forgot how to stop and had a rather spectacular crash. So spectacular this crash was that I lost both of my ski poles. My male friend caught up with me and graciously ventured over to collect my poles for me. However, I decided the heck with poles and attempted to stand without them. Of course this becomes a much more difficult task when your skis are pointing in the downhill direction. Well needless to say I fell again. This time however, when I attempted to stand I made the critical error of rotating my left knee in the outer direction. It would appear that when you do that it's usually followed by a popping sound which of course, I now know is not usually a good sign. Having just had my knee pop and being stuck on the side of a mountain I did what any normal person would do - I promptly stood up on both legs and continued to ski down the rest of the mountain. And not wanting to waste a perfectly good weekend I continued to walk around on my knee for about 2-3 days after the fact until I was finally able to alert my parents that my knee now resembled a basketball in size and might require medical attention. So on Super Bowl Sunday 1996 my father and I spent some time watching the game in the waiting room of the hospital emergency room.

Why am I sharing this story? Because 13 years ago Super Bowl 30 featured a then little-known team called the Pittsburgh Steelers. This past Sunday, Super Bowl 43 once again saw a match-up with the Steelers. And once again I found myself waiting in the hospital emergency room after hearing an eerily familiar popping sound in my left knee following a similar outer rotation. Luckily, this time around my injury will not result with major surgery followed by months of rehab (yet). But I must conclude the result of both falls are solely the blame of the Pittsburgh Steelers and my obvious distraught at seeing them in the Super Bowl. Rest assured I have already contacted my attorney and proper legal action will be taken. Looks like you'll be able to go to college after all, Morgan.

Gee, I never knew it was SuperBowl Sunday - all I remember is that you blew the family trip to DisneyWorld which was supposed to be a graduation present for you. Not only did the rest of the family go to DW without us [except for Scott who was somewhere out West], your father FAINTED for the first and only time in his life. You missed having all that fun going on all the rides with your niece and nephew, not to mention having the thrill of watching your parents spoil their grandchildren with every Disney toy. Guess we will just have to make the trip with Morgan instead and spoil her at DW instead!!!

Morgan, I can tell you had a great time at your first birthday party.....but......why didn't mommy let you play in the cupcake frosting??? Maybe she decided you had too much fun playing with all those balls! I suppose you will be starting gymnastics next!! I already know what gym you can go to! Of course I'm disappointed that mommy and daddy didn't post the picture of you and 'the big orange guy' as the newest picture on your blog site. Guess they are too worn out from the party:)
